Jesus the Tekton–Yeshua ha Boneh

Yeshua ha Boneh

Don’t you find it just a little bit odd that Jesus “the carpenter” never once used an allusion to woodworking in all his amazing stories? But Yeshua ha boneh (Aramaic), Jesus the builder, made several references to working with stone. Jesus’ stepfather Joseph is referred to by the Greek word tekton (Strong’s #5045; see Matthew 13:55, Mark 6:3), which is better translated “builder” than “carpenter”. According to custom, Jesus would have learned his father’s trade. They would have been skilled in all available building materials including wood and metal, but especially stone–the most plentiful building material in ancient Israel.
